Most inspiring people aren’t famous. And they don’t think of themselves as inspirational. But if we look, they’re there, in our personal and professional lives.

A young woman asked to walk with me. We’d never met. She’s originally from a country which today is in turmoil and is dangerous. She works for a large organization. I asked her about her plans, expecting to hear her hopes for professional growth. Instead she mentioned that she’s taking two weeks of leave to teach at the university in her home country. To give back. When her boss came to approve her leave, he asked if he could join her. And then his boss asked if he could come too. Amazing!

Three women in their 80s guided me on one part of the coast path. For several miles, up and down, slow and steady. They’re friends because they’ve been leading girl guide groups for the past 50 years. Incredible.
