A series of work/life lessons from the walk, as posted on my LinkedIn page each week.

#16: Suggestion for New Year’s resolution list: Take a long walk in 2019.

5 reasons, apart from the obvious (walking is good for physical/mental health, and the flexibility of “long” means this resolution is achievable).

• Walking equalizes us. Try walking with your boss or someone who reports to you.

• Conversations are different, often deeper. Someone I’d worked with for 10 years joined me for a day; at the end we knew much more about each other than before.

• Walking raises social consciousness: litter, plastic on beaches, birdlife, hedgerows…

• Gives us perspective (and views): the daily pressures recede, and we can think.

• Discoveries (the picture is a Neolithic grave by the Welsh coast path) and an opportunity to pass on the joys of walking to your children.

Ask someone who’s done the Camino or another long walk. One of the best experiences of their life?

Life’s too short to miss out on taking a long walk…
