A series of work/life lessons from the walk, as posted on my LinkedIn page each week.
#26: Life’s short. The potential satisfaction of change is greater than the disappointment of inaction.
Met a guy. Engineer, project manager. Driven, high-flying type – working with the board of his company. Early 30s, youngish (at least from where I stand nowadays!). Going places. But…he wasn’t satisfied. Too urban, always travelling, stressed, not enough time for people or the outdoors. As he said, what’s the point of just accumulating money if you’re stressed the whole time.
So, he made a complete change. Now, together with his girlfriend, studying for an MSc in relationship between movement and self-awareness/managing relationships/behaviour. Set up a company to sell this expertise to companies, individuals and young people (at subsidized rates). Already taking off. Simultaneously teaching at-risk children in an after-school program. Plus being an Airbnb host (how I met him) and practicing art (all over the house, really good). Happy as the proverbial lark.
Life’s too short to spend it feeling permanently stressed.
