Lessons
A series of work/life lessons from the walk, as posted on my LinkedIn page each week.
#3: Social changes are happening fast.
It happened over dinner at a posh pub: candles, 16th century beams etc. Suddenly, some of the diners’ companions got upset. More joined in. Mayhem! People intervened and all was quiet. I realized that many diners had their dogs sitting under their tables. Dogs are welcome nearly everywhere now.
My niece, who is vegan, worried whether we would find appropriate food on the walk. No problem; all of the pubs we stopped at had vegan options. I’ve stayed at dozens of Airbnbs since starting. Perhaps 25% of the hosts had met each other through online dating or were looking for long term partners via the internet. As they said: where can you meet people today? I was impressed by how fast all these changes are diffusing through society. One exception though. The photo lists vicars at Tintagel church since the 13th century. It took until 2017 for the first woman vicar to be appointed. The gender agenda has some way to go. Perhaps social changes happen faster when men and women agree.
