A series of work/life lessons from the walk, as posted on my LinkedIn page each week.
#31: Look and think before speaking.
Busy restaurant in Menai Bridge, Anglesey. Convivial atmosphere. Our group excited, hungry and thirsty after climbing Snowdon. Halfway through the delicious meal, water ran out. I glanced around, and asked the woman standing near our table for another jug. She was most graceful about it. "Actually I’m seated over in that corner, but I’ll gladly find you a server"…which she did. I looked for a hole to shrivel into. She smiled and said that she was a doctor, and did I need any help? A lot, I confessed! Later she came over with a salt container and asked if there was anything else we wanted. I should’ve bought her a bottle of wine to atone for my gaucheness, but then she was gone…
An extra second of looking and thinking would’ve made the difference. Still, the rest of our party (and quite a few others!) hugely enjoyed it.
