#8: Don’t waste emotional energy on irritations which will seem minor in hindsight.
Currently, most of mine involve buses. Irritations, that is. Buses which simply don’t turn up, buses which race past the bus stop, buses which don’t take cards or give change etc. Mostly the buses work just fine, and so when one of these things happen, it is disruptive. But although it might be painful at the time, most of these events are outside my control (so no “lessons learnt”) and in retrospect they are not the end of the world.
These annoyances come in all shapes and sizes: impolite communications, traffic, poor service…But mostly we won’t remember them next week. Not worth wasting emotional energy on.
Our mind-space is precious. Too precious to pollute it by stressing about minor frustrations which will soon be forgotten. Use it to focus on things which matter more, like genuine injustices, or appreciating the sunset or those we love.
